January 2016

Longhurst civil works are now complete and the landscaping of the stormwater basins at the intersection of Quaifes and Murphys Road are to be completed by the middle of the year. This represents the last of the subdivision works.

Construction of the neighbourhood shops is nearing completion which will complete the neighbourhood centre with the adjoining Seedlings Early Learning Centre and the Longhurst Health Centre, both of which have been operating for some time now.

June 2015

Longhurst is now connected with Knights Stream Park through a recently completed extension of Caulfield Avenue and also has a second connection to Halswell Junction Road through a new roundabout at Whincops Rd.

The last of the 800 residential sections at Longhurst are due to be completed by August.  The residential aspect of the development is supported by the Longhurst Medical Centre which is proving to be very popular with the locals as is Seedlings Early Learning Centre.  These community facilities are to be joined by the first of the Longhurst shops which are due to open in July with the second commercial building well underway and due to be open by the end of the year. This will represent the completion the of the Longhurst Neighbourhood centre.

The first two playgrounds in the Linear Park will soon be joined by a third in the Stage 6 reserve to the south west of the Medical Centre.   The other significant reserve area is that currently in development which extends from the Medical Centre through to Whincops Road. This is an integral part of a green link that will connect the Knights Stream Park School Site with the Longhurst Neighbourhood Centre.

September 2014

We have recently completed our 500th site at Longhurst and have a further 250 under construction. At the time of writing there were over 200 homes occupied and another 90 in various stages of construction.

To support existing and future residents Seedlings Early Centre will shortly be joined by the Longhurst Medical Centre which is due to open in October. The neighbourhood shops, which have been delayed, are now due to start construction in October. These will complete the neighbourhood hub which flows into the linear reserve, playground and log park. Over the next few months there will be an extension of the linear reserve to connect to the realigned Whincops Road which site clearing works are well underway on.

Stages 5A, 5B and 6A have all recently been completed and Stages 5C and 6B, which include a further two reserves, are due to be completed before the end of 2014.

During the course of 2015 Longhurst will be connected with Knights Stream Park through upgrades occurring to Whincops Road and new roads. This will provide easy access to the sports fields and primary school to be developed on Richmond Avenue. Further details are available at www.knightsstreampark.co.nz

November 2013

It has been busy times at Longhurst in recent months.

Seedlings Early Learning Centre on Hamill Road has opened for business.  This is the first component of the neighbourhood hub which also includes the community reserve and playground (now open), the Integrated Health Practice (under construction) and the neighbourhood centre (resource consent obtained and building consent drawings underway). This area is connected to Halswell Junction Road via Hamill Rd, and Murphys Road via Caulfield Ave (which will also link to Whincops Road next year).  In addition the linear reserve (under construction) will provide a combined pedestrian and cycle connection to Halswell Junction Road as will a further reserve being developed next year in Stage 5 through to Whincops Road.

Construction of the log park playground is under way and will be completed in the first quarter of 2014.

Stage 4a (77 sites) has been completed and Stage 4b (60 sites) is due to be completed by the end of of 2103.  House construction has commenced within Stage 4a.

Construction of stages 5 and 6 has commenced and these stages are due to be completed in the third and fourth quarters of 2014. These stages include further reserves and a range of section sizes to cater for a variety of housing options.

May 2013

Titles for Stage 3 have issued (all were pre-sold) which is the final stage of the initial 175 sites. Many sites in Stage 3 have houses underway on them and the landscaping of the stage is being completed in June.

Construction of the preschool is progressing as is work on the neighbourhood reserve with the first playground installed but not yet operational as further works around it are completed.

The central linear reserve which runs from the neighbourhood centre on Caulfield Avenue through the site to the intersection of Whincops and Halswell Junction Roads is taking shape and is due to be completed over the next two months (weather permitting).

Stage 4 is taking shape and will be completed in two parts between September and December 2013. This stage will provide another for another 150 homes to be built. Over 50% of Stage 4a is already pre-sold.

February 2013

Stage 2 titles are now issued and the first residents are expected to move into this stage towards the end of March as house construction commenced late last year. There are now some 15 houses under construction and this will increase significantly now that the titles have been issued.

Stage 3 has been delayed and is now expected to be completed by the end of February although house construction has already commenced in this stage to help offset the delays.

Pre-school construction is now underway and we will provide an update on the expected opening date as this becomes more certain.

The site for the Integrated Health Practice is nearing completion which will enable construction to commence in the very near future.

The neighbourhood reserve area is being shaped over the course of February which will then enable installation of the first set of play equipment and other amenities, with the landscaping to be completed in the autumn.

Stage 4 construction continues in earnest which has been aided by the earthworks constructor working through the holiday period so as to help complete this stage as early as possible given there are very few sites left in the first three stages.

September 2012

Titles have been issued for Stage 1 and house construction started in August. Construction of Stages 2 and 3 continues and house construction has already commenced in Stage 3, and will begin shortly in Stage 2.

Resource Consent has been granted for the pre-school on Hamill Road and construction is due to commence in November with a planned opening date of April 2013.

Detailed design is underway for the Integrated Health Practice to be established on Caulfield Avenue in the neighbourhood centre. Construction is still on track to commence in the first quarter of 2013 and for the complex to be operational by the end of 2013.

The playground and community reserve design have been completed and the playground equipment is on its way. This area adjacent to the commercial centre, pre-school and integrated health practice will be the community meeting place. This area will lead to the other reserves and areas of open space being developed in Stage 4 as well as in future stages.

Clearing of the Stage 4 area is underway and construction will commence in October.

July 2012

Construction of Stage One has been completed and we remain on track for the issue of titles in August.

While there has been a lot of focus on getting sites ready for house construction there has also been much happening in the background on the facilities and amenities to support new residents. This includes the following:

  • The preschool on Hamill Road, across from the neighbourhood centre, is planning on being open for business in April 2013.
  • An Integrated Heath Practice is to be established on Caulfield Avenue in the neighbourhood centre. Construction is due to commence by the first quarter of 2013 and be completed by the end of 2013.
  • The balance of the neighbourhood centre is being designed and negotiations continue with prospective tenants.
  • The conceptual design of the community reserve and playground adjacent to the neighbourhood centre has been completed and detailed design has commenced. Construction of this area will begin in the Spring and is due to be completed Autumn next year.

The vast majority of sites in Stages One to Three have been sold and consents are now in place for the next stages of development. Construction of Stage Four will commence in the Spring which includes the community reserve and playground as well as further reserve areas linking with Halswell Junction and Whincops Roads.

April 2012

Construction of Stages One to Three is progressing well with the majority of the Stage One sites finished and grassed. Titles are still on track to be released from August 2012.

Both of the commercial sites are now under contract as well as the pre-school site, and as at the end of March there were over 100 residential sites under contract.

The first houses on site are now due to be underway in April 2012 and these will be constructed at the same time as the roads are being completed around them.

Consent applications for the next 300 lots are being finalised and due to be lodged with the City Council with construction to commence in Spring 2012. The next stage of development will include the playground and reserve area next to the commercial area as well as the riparian park reserve which extends to the Halswell Junction Road and Whincops Road intersection.

February 2012

Construction of Stages One to Three is well underway and has been expanded to include the neighbourhood centre. Titles for these stages are expected to be progressively released from August 2012.

The construction of the roundabout which will link Longhurst with Halswell Junction Road and Alvaston Drive will begin in February. This will provide a direct route into the neighbourhood centre, pre-school and reserve areas.

Already there are sale and purchase contracts in place for the pre-school site (situated opposite the neighbourhood centre) and half of the neighbourhood centre area, as well as many residential sites.

The first houses in Longhurst are due to be underway by March 2012 and these will be built at the same time as the roads are being completed around them.

Half of the stormwater detention area in the south eastern corner of Longhurst will be completed as part of the first stages of development and this represents a large open space reserve for recreation (see the Artists Impression under the Masterplan tab).

Planning for the next stages has commenced and this includes the reserve area from the neighbourhood centre through to the intersection of Whincops Road and Halswell Junction Road.
